Maha Shivaratri is a Hindu festival celebrated annually in honor of Lord Shiva. The name also refers to the night when Shiva performs the celestial dance called Thandava. In each month of the Hindu lunar calendar, the day before the new moon has Shiva's festival - "Shiva's Night".

Maha Shivaratri is an annual festival dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva and is especially important in the Hindu Shiva tradition. Unlike most Hindu festivals, which are celebrated during the day, Maha Shivaratri is celebrated at night.

Maha Shivaratri is celebrated with grandeur at the Annamalaiyar Temple in the Tiruvannamalai district of Tamil Nadu.

2. Watch the ritual of the Shiva Linga, or the phallic symbol of Lord Shiva, bathe in milk, water and honey, then apply sandalwood paste and decorate with flowers and garlands.

4. Watch the Shiva wedding procession performed by many people taking on the roles of different gods and goddesses.

5. Visit the Neelkanth Mahadev Temple in Haridwar, one of the most revered shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva.
